Self-determination law
Since 1 November 2014, people with permanent residence and a residence permit in Germany have been able to change their gender entry and first name at the registry office (Standesamt); psychological/psychiatric examinations are no longer required for this.
The change must be announced to the registry office three to six months in advance – information and forms are usually available directly on the websites of the registry offices. An appointment for the change can then be made with the registry office.
If you have questions on applying for the changes or other questions related to the new law, please contact us via e-mail: personenstandtransinterqueer.org
