Counselling on all issues related to trans, inter and non-binary
Current information: we ask for your patience!
We will try to answer your emails promptly. If we have not contacted you within two weeks and your enquiry is still valid, please contact us again.
If you are looking for other counseling centers, you can find an overview here.
Our consulting services
Our counselling is aimed at people of age who live in Berlin.
Our peer counselling team offers psychosocial counselling around the topics of trans, inter and nonbinary (TIN). We also advise relatives as well as people who work with TIN, e.g. social workers or therapists.
We provide open-ended counseling on the following topics:
- Identity issues
- Coming out and social change
- Medical and social transition or detransition
- Search for TIN-sensitive therapists
If you don’t want to make an individual appointment, you can also come to our open counselling sessions without registering.

What TrIQ offers elsewhere
For specific questions about inter* issues, name and personal status change, as well as for TIN refugees, there is specialized counselling at TrIQ (see below). Please contact these offices directly with questions on these topics.
For training inquiries, please contact fortbildung@transinterqueer.org.
What we do not offer & where to find support
We recommend that people living in other federal states contact a local counseling center. A list of corresponding offers can be found here.
We recommend that trans, inter and non-binary young people and their relatives contact Lambda B-B., the Inter* Trans* Beratung Queer Leben, Trakine e.V. or, in the case of seeking medical-therapeutic connection, the Charité Berlin. Further offers for TIN youth, young adults and relatives can be found here.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer acute crisis counseling (because we usually cannot offer such prompt appointments), support in legal proceedings and health insurance appeals, as well as anti-discrimination counselling! You can find a list of corresponding offers here.
We can also offer support with job and housing searches. You can find a list of corresponding offers here for finding a job and here for finding accommodation.
For tips and support for research projects, term papers, theses, and the like, we generally lack the capacity.
About our consulting
Consulting in English and other languages than German
In addition to German, we offer peer counselling in English and Croatian. We can also organise counselling in other languages with the help of interpreters (which may take some time). If you need a translation into another language, please let us know!
Accessibility
Information about the accessibility of our rooms can be found here. For people who use a wheelchair, or for whom our rooms are otherwise inaccessible, we can also facilitate consultation in a low-barrier location.
Infection prevention: Please do not come to counseling if you have symptoms that indicate an acute, communicable disease. People with chronic coughs, etc. are welcome of course.
We have anti-viral air filters in all of our rooms. If you would like to have certain protective measures, e.g. that a mask is worn during the consultation or that consultants test themselves beforehand, please let us know in advance and we will be happy to do so. It is also possible to meet outside, e.g. for a consultation walk (in this case it may take longer to find an appointment).
The consulting team
We are a group of people for whom trans, non-binary and/or intersex issues are everyday experiences. Against this background, we offer qualified counseling for anyone seeking help or support. In addition, some people in the team have systemic counselling training.
Consulting formats and open consulting
Consulting formats:
- Consulting at our place
- Telephone consulting
- Consultation via video phone call (Zoom)
- Email consulting
Our consultations take place by appointment. Consultation appointments can be made by email. In addition, we offer open counselling (without prior appointment) about once a month.
Specialized consulting
Inter* counselling
Our counselling on inter* offers space for questions like:
Am I intersex?
I have (not) received a medical diagnosis, what does that mean now?
What services are available specifically for intersex people?
All inquiries on the topic of inter* will be forwarded to our inter* advisors and processed by them.
If it is important to you that only inter* counsellors know about your request, please write directly to
inter.beratung@transinterqueer.
