Educational Services for the current Legal Option of the first Name and Civil Status Change
In addition to the greatly criticized Transsexuellengesetz (Transexuals Act), Germany amended their Personenstandsgesetz (Civil Status Act) in 2018. According to § – section 45b , there is a possibility for people to change their first names and gender marker. Moreover, people may now select the gender entry of “diverse” or choose not to have one at all, as opposed to the previous options of either “male” or “female”. There are however political and judicial disputes whether the new regulation should apply to trans* people or if it should only apply to a specific group of inter* people.
